Chakshushopnishad Paath and Hawan, also referred to as “Chakshumati Puja“. is from the Krishna Yajur Veda, where the descriptions state the treatment of various diseases related to eyesight being performed by this Puja. The word Chakshu means eyesight. It is said therein that to heal the diseases of the eyes, one must offer prayers to Surya, the Sun god. In all the Vedas and Upanishads, Surya is regarded as the one who removes the darkness and is the epitome of vitality and power. All the living entities derive their sight and vision from Sun for he is associated with eyesight, light, knowledge and divine brilliance. Ancient yogis and saints have always recommended the worship of Sun for health especially of ones eyesight.

Eye problems were known to our ancient Vedic sages since long ago and have defined each of these problems astrologically and related it to our planetary composition. Our second house and the twelfth house of birth chart rule the left and right eye. The lords of these houses if they are malefic and are weakened or are under the malefic impact, posited in 6/8/12th houses or other factors related to the planets associated with those houses under the malefic influence then it leads to severe eye-related problems which can be incurable in nature. One of the classic examples of planetary impact in our eye-sight is being born with vision but losing eye-sight in an accident or due to long term illness.

The prayers in Chakshushopnishad state that it is the Sun who liberates the living entities from the clutches of darkness and ignorance. Ahirbudhnya is Rashi of this Chaakshushi Vidya. Gayatri is Chanda, and God Surya is Lord of this Chaakshushi Vidya.

It is Strongly recommended that that Pujas/Paath/Japa of Sun God should be performed on Raviwara (Sunday).
